While the
nation recognizes <4% of qualified college-bound seniors in the
National Merit Scholarship Program, fully 12% of Bethesda Christian
School students achieve this distinction.
Bethesda’s educational program presents a
challenging level of material to students because we desire to
strengthen and stretch them in order to enable achievement above the
normal standards. We use curriculum that presents the Christian
worldview so students can recognize worldly perspectives and false
philosophies and be able to employ the Word to defend their faith.
Our
elementary school provides a fast-paced, traditional atmosphere
where young students recite, memorize, practice, and sing
many of the facts they learn. Basic subjects are taught, with
phonics providing the foundation for early reading. Students also
enjoy music, French, computer, physical education and art specialty
classes.
Secondary
school students continue their rigorous studies while moving from
concrete learning to abstract and higher-level reasoning. Learning
to discern is especially emphasized in science, literature, and
Bible classes. Core courses are designed to sharpen the intellect,
fine arts electives to cultivate creativity, athletics to build
physique, student government to hone leadership skills, and service
organizations to encourage giving to others.
