Organizations

Chess Club
Students from sixth through twelfth grades meet once weekly during lunch for a mentally stimulating chess game with friend or foe. Novices and experts alike are welcome.  We will even teach you the game if you've never played before.

The Bethesda Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) is composed of juniors and seniors. Being inducted as a member is one of the highest honors a student at Bethesda can receive. These students  excel both inside and outside of the classroom in leadership, scholarship, service, and character. NHS members endeavor to be examples of Christ-like character and leadership. They are required to perform five hours of service per quarter, including a group service project benefiting the school during the second semester. The members must maintain a GPA of 3.6 and have exemplary conduct.

The Bethesda Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is a division of the National Honor Society especially for students in grades 7-8.  Being inducted is a tremendous honor at BCS.  Members must continually portray leadership, character, scholarship, and service both inside and outside of BCS.  They must also perform 15 hours of service a year.  The students serve the school as morning greeters, help with lunch cleanup, and volunteer after school to help teachers.

Six Wings
Six Wings is a student organization of Bethesda Christian School that seeks ways to serve the school and the community. The name “Six Wings” comes from Isaiah 6:2-8, when Isaiah saw a six-winged angel and heard the Lord ask, “Whom shall I send?” He responded, “Here am I. Send me!” Since students at BCS also feel called by God to serve others, the name Six Wings is appropriate.

A favorite annual Six Wings event is the weeklong summer mission project. Past trips include:
  • Construction work at orphanages in Mexico 1999, 2002
  • BCC/BCS Home Missions 2000, 2006, 2007
  • Construction work in Oklahoma for Native American ministries, etc 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008
  • Assisted YWAM ministry in Atlanta, Georgia 2009

Six Wings participants get to:
  • Turn faith into works
  • Learn to meet the needs of others
  • Form new friendships
  • Gain service hours required for college admission
  • Earn college scholarships based on service

Senior School Student Council
The senior school Student Council is a leadership organization for the students of BCS. Officers and a representative from each class are elected annually. The purpose of the Student Council is to promote school unity, spirit, and service, and to enhance leadership and team building skills. The student council serves the student body by organizing a series of events every year.
A few of these events include:
  • Thanksgiving Throwdown
  • PSATea Party
  • Homecoming and Spirit Week activities

Middle School Student Council
One of the highlights of the Student Council is the opportunity to plan events for middle school students, some of which include:
  • "Welcome Back to School" picnic
  • Spirit Week and Homecoming activities in conjunction with the senior school
  • Dodge Ball Night
