Our History
Bethesda Community Church’s senior pastor, Des Evans, first sensed God’s leading to establish a Christian school after moving to Fort Worth in 1976. He stated, “Our goal, from the very beginning, was to provide an atmosphere that is Christian in concept and character … and to provide the quality of instruction that would equip and enable our students to be comfortable as they transition to the most demanding of college disciplines.”
The birth of that vision occurred in the fall of 1980, when Bethesda Christian School opened its doors with a single kindergarten class. BCS added one grade level each academic year until it became a K-8 school in 1988. In the mid 1990s, the school board approved Bethesda’s expansion to include a high school, and BCS issued its first diplomas to the Class of 2000.
From its humble beginnings, Bethesda has matured into a respected college preparatory school that now serves 430 students representing 116 churches and 19 denominations in Tarrant County.
Although much has changed over the three decades of its existence, the school has not wavered from its original mission of preparing students for their God-given purpose. Bethesda Christian School continues to cultivate student development through character, academics and service.
While thankful for the school’s solid Christian and academic foundation, the BCS leadership understands that holding to these timeless values - rather than focusing upon its past - ensures its ongoing success. The school looks to the future, drawing upon the words of the apostle Paul:
Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 3:13-14 NIV)
